The Dauug House

Who We Are

Our nonprofit structure, our Directors, and Alpha Dauug

The Dauug House is an Ohio nonprofit corporation. As such, our assets (intellectual property, money, physical objects) are held and used in trust for the public benefit. For tax purposes, our nonprofit corporation is classified as a 501(c) (3) public charity, which matters for certain types of donors. Not all nonprofit corporations are public charities or exempt from taxes. We are both.

The Dauug House is overseen and governed by a five-person board of directors. Because our board meets in person, we all live near Dayton. The Directors are subject to term limits, and when a vacancy occurs, the remaining Directors select and appoint a replacement. Our current Directors were appointed May 6, 2025 and are the first to serve. These people are:

Catherine Devlin
Kendall Goodrich
Cinamon Houston
Joshua Rupp
Paul Simon

Joshua and Paul also serve respectively as Treasurer and President.

Day to day technical work, administration, recordkeeping, publicity, and fundraising are done by an Executive Engineer who the board appoints. The first person to have this title is Marc W. Abel, who was appointed May 6, 2025. Marc also serves as Secretary for the Directors’ convenience, although he is not himself a Director and cannot vote on board matters.

The Executive Engineer is eligible to remain in office for as long as the Directors see fit; there is no set term limit. But our hopes to support the Dauug architectures for decades impel us to think about an eventual succession of Executive Engineers. For this reason, the Directors have given Marc the disambiguating title of Alpha Dauug. Marc’s successor will be Beta Dauug, that person’s successor will be Delta Dauug, and so on.
